Paul T. Geske
Paul Geske is an associate at McGuire Law, P.C. His practice focuses on prosecuting consumer class action litigation in Illinois courts and federal courts throughout the country. He has represented consumers in multi-state, complex cases involving emerging technology, privacy, and consumer fraud. Paul is experienced in handling all aspects of pre-trial litigation, from investigating and initiating cases, to class certification and summary judgment. Paul is an aggressive litigator, and takes pride in working hard to obtain a favorable result for his clients.
Prior to joining the firm, Paul worked at a mid-sized civil defense firm based in Chicago. Paul also served as a judicial extern to Justice James Epstein (Ret.) of the Illinois First District Court of Appeals, Fourth Division. Paul is an avid writer and has been published in multiple legal publications, including several law review journals and bar association journals. In addition to having his works published, Paul has received several awards related to the study and practice of law, including the American Bankruptcy Institute's Medal of Excellence and the first place prize in the Judge John D. Schwartz memorial writing competition.
Paul received his J.D., magna cum laude, from the Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he was an executive articles editor of the Chicago-Kent Law Review and an editor for the Seventh Circuit Review. He was also inducted into the Order of the Coif. Paul is currently a member of the Chicago Bar Association.
Notable Outcomes
Guertin et al. v. Michigan et al., 17-1698 (6th Cir. 2019)
- Successfully briefed and argued appeal before the Sixth Circuit in litigation arising out of the Flint Water Crisis. On appeal, the Sixth Circuit sustained the plaintiffs' due process claims, held that the City of Flint was not entitled to sovereign immunity under the 11th Amendment, and rejected an attempt by a number of Michigan and Flint government officials to assert a defense of qualified immunity.
Vergara et al. v. Uber Techs., Inc., 15-cv-6942 (N.D. Ill. 2018)
- Class counsel representing plaintiffs asserting TCPA claims in multi-state litigation against Uber, resulting in a $20 million nationwide settlement.
Campbell-Ewald Co. v. Gomez, 136 S. Ct. 663 (2016)
- Member of litigation team that obtained a 6-3 victory before the U.S. Supreme Court, resulting in a precedent-setting decision regarding the doctrine of mootness in class actions.
